D.A. Race Close as More than 115,000 L.A. County Votes Remain Uncounted

The most closely watched race in L.A. County could still be up for grabs. With the today's update from the local Recorder-Registrar -- close to 60,000 mostly Vote-by-Mail ballots have now been counted, but still leaving 117,044 left -- which District Attorney candidates go on to the November election is in flux, even though the new numbers didn't change things much.

L.A. City Attorney Carmen Trutanich remains in third, 8,200 votes (less than 2 points) away from Deputy D.A. Alan Jackson, who has 161,837 votes. Chief Deputy D.A. Jackie Lacey is in first with 219,690 votes.

KCET political commentator Jessica Levinson of Loyola Law School said results do tend to hold after semi-official numbers are announced. She did, however, note that vote-by-mail voters are traditionally older and conservative, which could bode well for Jackson, a Republican.

Trutanich, who has already announced a reelection bid for city attorney, raised the most money and earned a number of noteworthy endorsements.
