Franklin High School

Stretching the length of historic Figueroa Street and criss-crossed by York Boulevard and the Avenues, Highland Park is one of LA's original suburbs. Its history is deeply meshed with the ever-evolving face of Los Angeles, but its character and feel are unique as defined by its shops, streets, homes, schools and most importantly its residents. Currently, it's home to one of LA's largest youth populations. With over 50% of the population under 30, who better to share a story of Highland Park's past, present and future, than its young residents?

For the Highland Park installment of Departures, Youth Voices partnered with the Arroyo Seco Academy at Franklin High School. The student producers engaged in a multimedia exploration and dialogue with their neighborhood and their place within it, connecting with their community face-to-face and through digital media. Ultimately creating visual and audio expressions of the neighborhood where they attend school, work, live and play.

Follow us to see Highland Park, re-envisioned through the eyes and words of the student producers.
