Becoming a ballerina is no small task, but becoming the first African American Female Principal Dancer with the American Ballet Theatre was all but impossible. Misty Copeland's rise in ballet was the result of breaking through years of physical and psychological barriers, including the racism that is still prevalent in the dance today.
