‘Remain in Mexico’ sends asylum seekers across the border
This week, the United States began returning migrants to Mexico under the ‘Migrant Protection Program,’ which began under the Trump administration. The MPP forced migrants applying for asylum to wait in Mexico instead of the U.S. for their hearings. The Biden administration shut down the program but had to restart it after court orders.
