Chicago’s “Mayor for Life” Richard M. Daley was elected in 1989, and re-elected in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003 and 2007. Daley is the longest-serving mayor in the history of Chicago, following his father, Richard J. Daley, who served from 1955 to 1976. Before becoming mayor, Richard M. Daley served in the Illinois State Senate and as the Cook County State’s Attorney.
