Lake Fire, LASD Cliques | August 13

Season 1 Episode 209

On the August 13 edition of the Reporter Roundup, KPCC reporters have the latest on the Lake Fire, cliques inside the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and healthcare worker deaths.

KPCC’s Sharon McNary reports the fire in the Lake Hughes area spread remarkably fast, jumping to 10,0000 acres in just a matter of hours.

Robert Garrova has details on Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva’s announcement today that he’s moving to fire or suspend 26 employees related to a 2018 deputy-on-deputy brawl.

Anecdotally, nursing home workers who have died of COVID-19 tend to be people of color. Jackie Fortier reports the county has now released hard numbers confirming this.
