Youth Voices

A digital literacy and civic engagement program that invites youth on an exploration of their neighborhood, where they investigate the social, cultural, and political history and take a critical look at the issues facing their community. Students are encouraged and provided opportunities to become leaders and advocates for their community.

Student producers have traveled throughout the city conducting and filming interviews about the L.A. River. Along the way they have met a diverse group of people, each with unique associations to the river.

Cleaning Up
One way to really get to know the L.A. River is to spend an afternoon cleaning it up.

Fishing with two marine biologists was an amazing experience. Even though they did most of the fishing, it was still interesting to learn about the different animals we caught, especially the crawfish, who I found to be disgusting but kinda cute.
