PBS SoCal KIDS Writers Contest

The PBS SoCal KIDS Writers Contest is an annual creative writing competition open to children in grades K-3, designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning. Libraries, schools, homeschooled children, after school programs, and clubs are encouraged to participate. Winners are selected from each grade level and special categories, including Humor, Illustration, Science Fiction and Kindness. Local winners are recognized at an awards ceremony and receive prizes. Non-English language stories are welcome as long as an English translation is provided.

California’s First Carbon Capture Project: Vital Climate Tool or License to Pollute?

California’s first attempt to capture and sequester carbon involves California Resources Corp. collecting emissions at its Elk Hills Oil and Gas Field, and then inject the gases more than a mile deep into a depleted oil reservoir. The goal is to keep carbon underground and out of the atmosphere, where it traps heat and contributes to climate change. But some argue polluting industries need to cease altogether.
