Best Things to Do in SoCal This Week: December 8-14, 2025

Every week, I highlight a few events across the SoCal region. This week, get ready for the holidays at A Native Market and Shatto Gallery, experience Japanese American car culture and Corita Kent's photographs, and get a better understanding of food insecurity.

Lowriders, legacy, and community

Celebrate the Japanese American car community and culture with the finale and last curator tour for JANM’s exhibition, Cruising J-Town: Behind the Wheel of the Nikkei Community. From lowriders to community cruising traditions, this thoughtful and local all-ages finale is the perfect way to honor the stories that keep J-Town moving.

Shop and celebrative Indigenous arts and culture

Native community and culture converge at LA NDN Flea – A Native Market, a biannual gathering modeled after the flea markets found on Native American reservations. Organized by Indigenous arts space The Chapter House, the market features recycled fashion, handcrafted jewelry, original art, and goods by Native makers, alongside nonprofit and resource groups offering community support. Attendees take home a free, limited-run poster by artist Jeffrey Gibson (Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and Cherokee).

Holiday shopping, but make it art

Celebrate and support local artists at the Shatto Gallery Christmas Market, a two-day pop-up spotlighting a thoughtfully curated mix of local artists and artisan makers. The market features original artwork, handmade gifts, jewelry, ceramics, unique design objects, and limited-edition prints. Perfect for finding meaningful, one-of-a-kind presents, this community-minded market offers plenty of creative cheer.

Seeing, remembering, and rethinking photographic archives

A reflective evening of looking and listening unfolds at the Marciano Art Foundation with Catching Sight: Paul Pfeiffer, the second installment of this intimate talk series. Renowned artist Paul Pfeiffer delves into select works from the Corita Art Center Slide Collection, presented alongside evocative images from Corita Kent’s photographic archive. With seating limited to 60 guests, the event offers a contemplative encounter organized by Corita Art Center’s senior curator, Olivian Cha.
