'NOBU' Chronicles the Career of Chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa Who Redefined Global Cuisine

Filmmaker Matt Tyrnauer remembers growing up in LA in the 1980’s when the city went from culinary backwater to the most interesting restaurant town in America and maybe the world. He recalls the whispers about a little Japanese restaurant on La Cienega Blvd that was impossible to get into, and the haunt of the biggest names in Hollywood. People would mention Tom Cruise, Madonna, Mike Ovitz and all of the glamorous and intimidating names of the era packing into Matsuhisa and having revelatory experiences at the sushi bar.
Matt never made a movie about food, or restaurants, so when he read Nobu’s autobiography it occurred to him that Nobu would be a great topic to combine a lot of interests of his in a film.
Immediately following the screening, Deadline’s chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on PBS SoCal's Must See Movies, moderates an in-person Q&A with filmmaker Matt Tyrnauer.
