Pioneer: Taylor Hackford

Famed producer and director Taylor Hackford reflects on what makes KCET important.

It was a community station.. It's about Los Angeles. Talking about L.A. in ways that nobody else does... That's what's great about KCET. You feel you're involved in something special. Presenting ideas by people who were interested in shining a light on their community.

Taylor started his career in film and television at KCET after graduating from USC School of Cinema-Television in 1968. During His time at KCET Hackford produced several films including the Cat Stevens documentary Boboquivari; Bukowski, which follows Charles Bukowski as he travels to San Francisco for a poetry reading; and the 1973 comedy Economic Love-In, just to name a few. Since then he has produced and directed such films as Ray, The Devil's Advocate, An Officer and A Gentleman and many more. See a full list of his credits.

Taylor is currently living in L.A. with his wife Helen Mirren and continues to create for film and television.
