Eastern Projects presents “Faces Explained Away by the Light of Day,” a group exhibition featuring Exene Cervenka, David Buckingham, Edward Carbajal, Gary Wong, and Cesar Massturd. Bringing together artists rooted in Los Angeles’ underground art, music, and creative communities, the exhibition highlights voices that have helped shape the city’s underground art, music, and counterculture movements. A defining presence within the exhibition is Exene Cervenka, the iconic vocalist, songwriter, and co-founder of the influential Los Angeles punk band X. Emerging from the late 1970s Los Angeles punk scene, Cervenka helped shape a movement built on independence, experimentation, and a rejection of convention. Known for her poetic lyrics and unmistakable voice, she became one of the most influential figures in American punk while helping establish Los Angeles as a center for underground music and culture.
