Laguna Art Museum presents Andy Moses: Into the Light, on view from March 21 through September 20, 2026. Spanning more than two decades of work, the exhibition traces Moses’s sustained investigation of light, perception and the dynamic relationship between abstraction and landscape.
“Moses’s paintings often invite multiple readings, the forms may suggest landscapes shaped by water and terrain, while remaining grounded in abstraction through color, surface and structure”, said Julie Perlin Lee, Director of Laguna Art Museum. “ Rather than prioritizing one interpretation, Moses allows both to coexist, using paint as the primary means of exploring how light and space are experienced.”
Moses’s practice is often discussed in relation to Southern California’s Light and Space movement, though his work remains firmly rooted in painting. His use of color and scale has also been compared to artists such as Mark Rothko and Morris Louis, as well as earlier painters including Claude Monet and J.M.W. Turner, whose work emphasized observation and atmosphere.
Andy Moses: Into the Light focuses on work from the past twenty years and reflects Moses’s ongoing interest in how paintings shape visual experience. The exhibition encourages close looking and consideration of how surface, form and light influence perception.
