A film screening of "The Misfits" in 4K. Marking what would have been her 100th birthday, this 17-film series presents Marilyn Monroe's career evolution from early breakout roles to late-career triumphs. June 1–July 3, 2026, complementing the exhibition Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon.
Marilyn Monroe is one of the world’s most enduring figures from the classic Hollywood era. Born Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, she spent the 1940s building her career through modeling and minor movie roles. By the early 1950s, she was a household name. While Monroe... excelled in blonde bombshell roles, which placed an emphasis on her appearance, she also expressed frustration at being confined to them. A perfectionist, Monroe was deeply involved in the many facets of her public image. She founded her own production company—Marilyn Monroe Productions—which was extremely rare for a woman in Hollywood at the time. Despite her successes, Monroe had many professional and personal struggles, which reached a peak in the late 1950s and early 1960s and culminated in her tragic death in 1962 at 36. This screening series, presented to complement the exhibition Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon, presents 17 of her feature-length films showcasing her commanding screen presence, knack for comedic timing, and career evolution across nearly a decade and a half of indelible roles.
