The Academy Museum presents the 4K restoration premiere of the 1980 film Resurrection, with actress Ellen Burstyn appearing in person.
An ordinary woman survives a near-death experience and discovers newfound powers of healing in this supernaturally tinged drama, directed by Daniel Petrie (A Raisin in the Sun, 1961) from an original screenplay by Lewis John Carlino (The Great Santini, 1979) that emphasizes character and emotion over fantasy. Resurrection was a passion project for actress Ellen Burstyn, who worked closely with Carlino to develop the screenplay, receiving a Best Actress nomination for her subtle, heartfelt work. Theater legend Eva Le Gallienne was also nominated for her thoughtful performance as Burstyn’s grandmother, three-time Oscar winner Maurice Jarre (Lawrence of Arabia, 1962) composed the soaring score, and the striking visual effects for the afterlife sequence were created by Tony Silver... and Oscar nominees Richard Greenberg and Robert Greenberg (Predator, 1987).
