Guest curator and noted California art historian Gordon McClelland presents a fresh look at 20th-century California modernism through the concept of modern stylization—the bold simplification of form, expressive color and innovative design that distinguished California artists from many of their European contemporaries. Featuring works by Stanton MacDonald-Wright, Eduoard Vysekal, Mary Blair, Keith Crown, Ken Potter, Ed Reep, and others, the exhibition draws upon McClelland's years of research to reveal how California artists developed a distinctly optimistic vision of modern art rooted in the culture and landscape of the Golden State.
