Arts in Irvine is pleased to present three solo exhibitions opening January 25 at the Great Park Gallery, featuring work by Daniela García Hamilton, Kristina Rose Baker, and Vonn Sumner. These exhibitions highlight distinct narratives and approaches to painting that traverse familial traditions, art history, and pop culture. A free opening reception with the artists will be held Sunday, January 25, from 1 to 3 p.m.

The exhibitions mark a new approach to how the gallery activates its space, with a thoughtfully designed layout that allows each artist’s work to stand on its own:

Daniela García Hamilton: Embroidered Paintings explores identity and belonging through vibrant embroidered paintings that reflect the traditions and stories of her childhood.

Kristina Rose Baker: The Diver presents large-scale paintings and drawings inspired by art-historical cave paintings that reimagine the human figure in moments of suspension between water, earth, and sky.

Vonn Sumner: This is Krazy! reinterprets the iconic comic strip Krazy Kat in surreal, painterly narratives that blend pop culture, art history, mythology, and humor.

In addition to the exhibitions, visitors are invited to enjoy live music and hands-on art activities during the opening reception from 1 to 3 p.m.:

Jazz in the Palm Court | Great Park Palm Court Arts Complex
Enjoy live jazz inspired by a wide range of composers and traditions, from blues and swing to bebop and contemporary styles. Guests are encouraged to bring folding chairs and blankets for seating around the Palm Court.

Orizomegami Workshop: Pattern & Color | Great Park Studio
Explore Orizomegami, the traditional Japanese art of fold-dyeing paper. Participants will fold, dip, and unfold paper to create one-of-a-kind patterns shaped by geometry and chance. This self-guided activity is free, open to all ages, and does not require advance registration.
