An Evening of Exploration: Latino and Islamic Cultural Connections

PBS SoCal and UCLA’s Fowler Museum hosted an evening of exploration in which 140 guests enjoyed a keynote lecture by Dr. Mariam Saada. This lecture explored the historical threads that tie Islamic and Latino cultures.

Prior and after the lecture guests were able to enjoy food prepared by local restaurant, Guelaguetza, that illustrated the intersection these cultures shared through food. Dr. Mariam Saada gave a passionate lecture as she is an expert in Spanish Historical Linguistics specializing in Arabic and Islamic historical documents from the 16th-17th centuries of the Iberian Peninsula and the 17th-18th centuries of Latin America. We encouraged continuing this exploration by watching "The Great Muslim American Roadtrip."
