Earth Focus Presents: River Perspectives

On April 24, PBS SoCal hosted an immersive screening event highlighting the L.A. River episodes from the fifth season of Earth Focus featuring art, music, and hands-on activities from community partners. Over 150 guests gathered at the Southern California Institute of Architecture to watch the episodes and connect with local organizations.

The radio station dublab DJed the afternoon with Ruben Molina playing songs showcasing the history of the Elysian Valley. Friends of the Los Angeles River drove in their educational RV, “The River Rover,” for people to explore and learn more about river ecology. LA River Arts organized a terrarium-making station to take home a piece of the river and a poetry reading with Tongva Culture Bearer and artist, Tina Orduno Calderon.

The Ontario Museum of History & Art showcased an interactive VR activity from their exhibition “Built on Water.” Clockshop, Metabolic Studio, and the Arroyo Seco Foundation were also present to engage guests and share about the work happening along the LA River to preserve ecology and stories from community members.
