Plain-Language Summary
Family Math — Play & Learn app for young children (ages 2–5). We don’t show ads, we don’t sell or “share” your or your child’s data for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we collect only what’s needed to make the app work (e.g., crash logs). Parents can review or delete data at any time. We follow U.S. children’s privacy law (COPPA) and California’s privacy law (CCPA/CPRA).
1) What We Collect (and Why)
We design our app to avoid collecting personal information from children. When data is necessary to operate, secure, fix, or improve the app, we may collect:
- App events & diagnostics (e.g., screens used, feature taps, crash/error logs)
- Device & app metadata (e.g., app version, OS version, language, device type)
- Coarse location (city/state for localization only; no precise GPS) Parent contact info only if a parent provides it, which may include email address or phone number, if voluntarily provided for consent, support, or optional notifications.
Persistent identifiers (like IP address) are used only for internal operations—never for ads or profiling. User-generated content such as progress and artwork is stored locally on the device to enable app functionality. This content is not transmitted to our servers unless a parent explicitly shares it.
2) How We Use Information
Operate and provide the app’s features; keep the app secure and reliable; diagnose and fix bugs; improve usability in aggregate form. We do not use personal information for advertising or behavioral tracking. Phone numbers are used solely for the purpose for which they were provided (e.g., sending consent confirmations or requested notifications). We do not share phone numbers with third parties except service providers under strict contracts.
3) Selling, Sharing, and Advertising
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Limited disclosures to service providers (e.g., crash reporting) under strict contracts.
4) Children’s Privacy & Parental Consent (COPPA)
We provide clear notice of our practices; obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal info beyond internal operations; parents can review, delete, and stop further collection; consent methods may include credit card checks, signed forms, or other FTC-approved methods.
5) California Privacy Rights (CPRA)
Parents acting for their children can: access categories and specific pieces of personal info; delete personal info; correct inaccurate info; opt out of sale/share (not applicable today); limit use of sensitive personal info (we do not collect SPI for extra purposes). Contact: legal@pbssocal.org or web form URL.
6) Data Retention
We keep data only as long as necessary for the purpose collected, then delete or de-identify it.
7) Security
We use reasonable safeguards and require service providers to do the same.
8) International Use
Our app is intended for U.S. use. If you use it elsewhere, your data will be processed in the U.S.
9) Changes
We will post updates here and notify you before material changes take effect.
