BOOK CLUB: THE NEXT CHAPTER - Official Teaser Trailer [HD] - Only In Theaters May 12

When screenwriters Bill Holderman and Erin Simms wrote and produced "Book Club" in 2017, they had no idea what a revolutionary act it would be. Based on a real-life incident when Holderman and Simms decided to send their mothers a copy of E.L. James' best-selling novel Fifty Shades of Grey, the most provocative thing about their first film, which costarred Hollywood legends Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen, wasn’t the frank sexual conversations the women had, although that was certainly fun to see. It was that a major studio movie could be made with four female leads over the age of 65. The idea for a sequel came almost before the first film was released, and the successful adventures continue in Italy.

Immediately following the screening, Deadline's chief film critic Pete Hammond, who can also be seen on KCET's Must See Movies, moderates a Q&A with director and co-writer Bill Holderman, and co-writer and producer Erin Simms.

Listen to the full Q&A from the screening below.

The long-running in-person film series is held at the Landmark Westwood Theatre, while the popular virtual series continues on Eventive, a technology platform designed specifically to enhance the online film viewing experience.
