Mark Zambrano is the author of "Surfing in Huntington Beach," a history of the surfers who shape one of America's most iconic surf towns. He works with Corky Carroll's Surf School and Board Members Surf Shop, and is a member of the Huntington Beach Historic Resource Board When not working and writing, Mark spends his time surfing around Orange County.

If we were to trace back to a single place and time where California surf culture began, it was likely Corona del Mar in the 1920s. And the person who gave birth to it was Duke Kahanamoku — fittingly known as the "father of modern surfing."
