Former Foster Youth Share The Challenges of Transitioning To Life on Their Own in New Documentary Congratulations, You’re on Your Own: Life After Foster Care
PBS SoCal’s To Foster Change Social Impact Initiative Shares Success Stories and Highlights Realities in an Effort to Improve the Lives of Foster Youth
Los Angeles, January 18, 2018 – The PBS SoCal KOCE social impact initiative To Foster Change presents the documentary film Congratulations, You’re on Your Own: Life After Foster Care. This new documentary by filmmaker Michael Nes shares a unique view of what life is like for three young adults who have recently aged out of foster care, and serves as a primer for those unfamiliar with life in foster care. Congratulations, You’re on Your Own will premiere on PBS SoCal 1 on January 18, 7:00 p.m.
The documentary will repeat on PBS SoCal 1 and PBS SoCal 2 and is available for streaming on pbssocal.org and the PBS app on mobile and streaming devices. This documentary is the first of three documentaries on the topic of foster care and foster youth created through the To Foster Change social impact initiative which aims to create understanding, inspire hope, and motivate positive action, to change the realities and life outcomes for Southern California foster youth.
“Our desire with this documentary is to give a voice to young people touched by foster care,” said Jamie Annunzio Myers, PBS SoCal COO and VP of Education and Community Engagement. “We hope providing a platform to share these stories will help others better understand the difficulty many young people aging out of the foster care system face, in order to help us improve the lives of all children in foster care.”
Congratulations, You’re on Your Own: Life After Foster Care premieres during National Mentoring Month when other like-minded organizations are also sharing stories to inspire individuals to get involved and help children in need of support.
