Los Angeles, Calif. – June 8, 2022 – PBS SoCal and KCET, Southern California’s flagship PBS stations, announced today that they received 16 nominations for the 74th Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards presented by the Television Academy. The nominations were spread across 10 different categories and honored locally produced productions from KCET and PBS SoCal. An entire sweep in one of the categories – Music Composition, ensures at least one Emmy® win when all 35 categories are presented during a ceremony on Saturday, July 23 at the Academy’s campus in L.A.’s NoHo Arts District.

The locally produced original arts and culture series ARTBOUND received the most nominations with eight in total, highlighting a variety of season 12 episodes that include a tribute to Rubén Funkahuatl Guevara with “Con Safos,” an exploration of international art exhibition “Desert X 2021” and more. The fourth season of TENDING NATURE (produced in partnership with the Autry Museum of the American West) was also recognized with three nominations for the series that shines a light on the environmental knowledge of Indigenous Peoples across California.

In a first for the show, SOCAL WANDERER garnered two nominations this year. A KCET Original that explores the rich culture, history and landscape of Southern California with host Rosey Alvero, the most recent season examined Los Angeles neighborhoods guided by women business owners of color who are trailblazers in their community.

Single nominations went to THE 62nd ANNUAL L.A. COUNTY HOLIDAY CELEBRATION (a co-production with The Music Center in association with CDK Productions) as well as acquired programs EDDY’S WORLD, an engaging portrait of a 100-year-old toy inventor, and LIVES, NOT GRADES, where a team of USC college students travels to Moria Camp in Greece to design and build innovations for refugees.
