KCET Launches New, Animated Preschool Series 'SPACE RACERS'
Viewers Invited to Attend a Free SPACE RACERS Screening
Event
at the California Science Center on May 29
BURBANK, CA - April 28, 2014 -KCET, the
nation's largest independent television station serving Southern and Central
California, presents SPACE RACERS, a new, animated preschool series,
produced in collaboration with NASA experts. The half-hour show will debut
during KCET's weekend children's programming block, beginning Saturday, May 3,
2014 at 7:30 a.m.
SPACE RACERS follows young spaceship cadets at the Stardust Space
Academy as they soar through the solar system. Young viewers will learn about
the power of scientific investigation and observation, the wonders of space
exploration, and the importance of working together as a team, all with fun and
engaging characters they can relate to.
The series follows spaceships: Eagle, Hawk, Robyn, Starling and Raven,
along with their fellow cadets and teachers at the Stardust Space Academy.
Each spaceship has a distinctive ability. Eagle, the natural
leader of the group has unrivaled speed and agility; Hawk touts incredible
strength and a near-perfect memory; Robyn has the sharpest mind and is the
group's scientist; Starling is small but braver than ships twice her size;
Raven combines cunning with unrelenting competitiveness; and the wise and
enigmatic Headmaster Crane guides these eager cadets on their missions
throughout the solar system.
Series creators produced SPACE RACERS in collaboration with NASA
experts, who helped develop a balanced curriculum and reviewed every script to
create highly engaging and scientifically accurate lessons, which can be
accessed online at www.SpaceRacers.org.
Stunning computer-generated imagery plus real space sounds and images
bring the world of the SPACE RACERS vividly to life. The world-class creative team for the series
includes, director Mark Risley (Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys),
head writer Allan Neuwirth (Cyberchase and Arthur) and
composer/songwriter Jody Gray (Courage the Cowardly Dog, Clifford
and Abby's Flying Fairy School).
In addition, young viewers and their parents are invited to attend a
special free screening event at the California Science Center at Exposition
Park on Thursday, May 29 beginning at 10 a.m. To make a reservation, visit kcet.org/meetracers.
