2013 - KCET, the nation's largest independent television station serving
Southern and Central California, today announced its new Fall line-up.
In addition to offering the best of British dramas five nights a week, KCET is launching several NHK World TV specials showcasing
Asian life and culture, and new international news programs,France
24
and Journal, airing daily beginning Monday, August 5.Also, this fall, KCET will debut a new Sunday night block
introducing viewers to "The Leading Ladies of KCET," which will include the hit
BBC detective series, Scott & Bailey, the BBC sitcom, Miranda
- both new to KCET's schedule - along with the popular mystery series,Rosemary
& Thyme
making a re-appearance
in primetime.
International News
On Monday, August
5, France 24, will kick off KCET's new international news
block, which currently includes newscasts from BBC World News America,BBC
World News
and NHK's Newsline. France 24, a French perspective tointernational current events, will air daily on KCET at 6:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. In
addition, Journal, a newscast from international
German-based broadcaster, Deutsche Welle, airs daily on KCET at 1 p.m., 4:30
p.m. and 11 p.m.
NHK World TV Specials
Starting
in August, KCET and Link TV will air a series of NHK World TV specials,
showcasing Asian life and culture. The first special,Tomorrow: A Gift of Courage and
Resilience
, will premiere onKCET on August 8 at 10 p.m. The special follows English singer/actress
Jane Birkin as she visits the severely damaged city of Ishinomaki where she
gives a charity concert and meets locals
gradually recovering from the effects of the earthquake and tsunami that struck
Japan in March 2011. Two additional NHK specials will air in August: Genki Sudo:Breaking

The Leading Ladies of KCET
This fall, KCET will debut, "The Leading
Ladies of KCET," a new Sunday night block of programming led by strong female
characters. The night kicks-off on Sept. 8 at 9 p.m. with BBC's acclaimed investigative drama, Scott & Bailey. The hit series explores
the personal and professional lives of two female detectives - DC Rachel Bailey
(Suranne Jones), a down-to-earth, noisy, argumentative and single woman; and
her partner, DC Janet Scott (Lesley Sharp), a diplomat and a thinker, who is
also a wife and mother.
At 9:45 p.m., back by popular demand,
mystery series, Rosemary and Thyme follows the adventures of two gardening enthusiasts, Rosemary Boxer
(Felicity Kendal) and Laura Thyme (Pam Ferris) who find themselves caught up in
a series of murder mysteries.
Award-winning BBC sitcom, Miranda (10:30 p.m.), written by and
starring comedienne Miranda Hart will close the female-driven block. New to KCET, the series delves into Hart's
semi-fictional, clumsy world where whatever she attempts in life seems to end
in a disastrous way.

Sunday
Foyle's War - Set during and shortly after World War II,
the series chronicles the adventures of Detective Chief Superintendent
Christopher Foyle's (Michael Kitchen) as he attempts to apprehend
criminals who are taking advantage of the confusion the war has created in
England.
Monday
New Tricks - A team of retired
former detectives with over 80 years service between them and three very
distinct personalities is recruited to re-examine unsolved crimes
Tuesday
Death in Paradise - The warm,
light-hearted detective series follows a strait-laced detective from London's Metropolitan Police who is sent to
the fictional Caribbean island of Sainte-Marie to solve the case of the
death of a fellow British policeman.
Wednesday
MI-5 - The action-packed drama
follows the clandestine security service, and the people who make up
the elite team. Topical and edgy, the series chronicles the passion, jeopardy
and the intrigue of people who have to lie for a living - and who can never
tell the truth to their loved ones about what it is that they do.
Thursday
Doc Martin - KCET's highest-rated
program, the series stars Martin Clunes (Men
Behaving Badly
) as Dr. Martin Ellingham, whose truculence and tactless mannercauses mayhem in a small Cornish community. The series details the trials and
tribulations of the brash Ellingham, once a celebrated London surgeon who left
his job after developing a phobia to blood.
In addition, beginning
Thursday, September 5, KCET will reprise the back-to-back programming
schedule starring Clunes. Viewers can watch the versatility of the
award-winning actor, as he transforms from a brilliant yet abrasive and
ill-mannered surgeon in Doc Martin to
a kind and romantic undertaker in William and Mary. Alongside Clunes, the series stars Julie
Graham and follows two single parents looking for love, who perhaps find it, but experience twists and turns along the way.
