Burbank, Calif. – July 26, 2021 ­­– PBS SoCal and KCET, Southern California’s flagship PBS stations, announced today they received a combined total of 10 wins from the 2021 Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards presented on Saturday, July 24 by the Television Academy and its Los Angeles Area Peer Group. The total tally led all other local stations (or duopolies) for the greatest number of wins. KCET and PBS SoCal were honored in categories that included L.A. Local Color, Education/Information and Arts. Going into the ceremony, the two Southern California-based PBS stations led all others in the region with 25 nominations spread across 12 different categories honoring 14 separate, locally produced productions. The 73rd Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards were presented by the Los Angeles Television Academy and streamed on Emmys.com.

For the fifth year running, KCET and PBS SoCal combined garnered the most awards of any other LA broadcast station with ten wins honoring ten separate programs. Honors went to the locally produced KCET Original arts and culture series ARTBOUND, news documentary series SOCAL CONNECTED, environmental series EARTH FOCUS (in partnership with theThomson Reuters Foundation and the Laboratory for Environmental Narrative Strategies at UCLA), indigenous peoples series TENDING NATURE (produced in partnership with the Autry Museum of the American West) as well as two informational series PROPS IN A MINUTE and I WAS THERE. PBS SoCal’s documentary HOLLYWOOD’S ARCHITECT was honored as well as KCET documentaries CALIFORNIA COAST: WITHIN SIGHT, SCENT AND SOUND OF THE OCEAN and GLOBAL MOSAIC “Young Women Rising.”
