PBS SoCal Receives 33 Nominations For Los Angeles Press Club's Annual Southern California Journalism Awards From More Than 2,300 Entries Submitted This Year

PBS SoCal accolades include receiving four out of five nominations in prestigious ‘Feature Documentary’ category along with nominations in 23 additional categories.

Los Angeles, Calif. – May 10, 2024 – PBS SoCal, Southern California’s flagship PBS organization, announced today 33 nominations for the 66th Annual Southern California Journalism Awards presented by the Los Angeles Press Club. The nominations were spread across nine different programs/series in 24 categories and honored a variety of locally produced series/productions including 10 DAYS IN WATTS, ARTBOUND, SOCAL WANDERER, UNIDAD and HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT GREG? from PBS SoCal. Winners in all print, radio, podcast, TV and online categories (from more than 2,300 entries submitted this year) will be announced in all categories presented during a ceremony on Sunday, June 23rd at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. The honorees’ work can be seen on pbssocal.org and on the free PBS video App.

The 14th season of the original Emmy® award-winning arts and culture series ARTBOUND led the organization’s tally with 10 nominations, followed by six nominations for actor and filmmaker Raphael Sbarge’s (Once Upon a Time, Murder in the First) urban garden docuseries 10 DAYS IN WATTS with five nods going to the “Saving Moms” special from BONNIE BOSWELL PRESENTS.

PBS SoCal received four out of the five nominations in the prestigious "Feature Documentary" category for acclaimed arts and culture series ARTBOUND with three documentaries (“East West Players,” “Chinatown Punk Wars” and “América Tropical”) that premiered in the fall of 2023 as well as the LGBTQ+ Pride Heritage Month program DEAR IKE: LOST LETTERS TO A TEEN IDOL that debuted last June. The organization’s MEMORIAL DAY MASSACRE: Workers Die, Film Buried” was also nominated in the category honoring reporting on misinformation and disinformation.

Yesterday’s nominations from the LA Press Club also recognized ARTBOUND producer Nic Cha Kim who is nominated once again as Television Journalist of the Year as well as both Bonnie Boswell (BONNIE BOSWELL PRESENTS) and Robeson “Taj” Frazier (“HIP-HOP AND THE METAVERSE”) who were nominated in the Anchor/Host Category.
