Los Angeles, Calif. – June 4, 2025 PBS SoCal, Southern California’s flagship PBS organization, announced the 27 nominations announced yesterday for the 77th Annual Los Angeles Area Emmy® Awards presented by the Television Academy, more than any other LA-based broadcast organization and the most nominations ever in PBS SoCal’s history. The 27 nominations for 13 different programs/series produced as PBS SoCal were spread across 12 different categories. The locally produced content/productions were recognized in a variety of categories that ranged from “L.A. Local Color” to “Live Special Events” and “Education/Information” to “Crime/Social Issues.” The 77th Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards will be presented Saturday evening, July 26, 2025, at the Skirball Cultural Center, hosted by Kelvin Washington, Host/Anchor for Spectrum News 1 in Los Angeles.

The award-winning, locally produced original arts and culture series ARTBOUND received the most nominations with 7 in total, highlighting a variety of season 15 episodes including last fall’s premiere episode following the creation of a world-class art museum and education center dedicated to Mexican-American artists – The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum (aka “The Cheech”) featuring interviews with actor and art collector Cheech Marin. Also recognized was content highlighting the impact of Leimert Park’s Brockman Gallery on Black artists as well as a historical look at Compton’s Paul Robeson Players, one of the longest-running black theater companies. Additional nominated episodes from ARTBOUND looking at the rise of West Coast Modernism and the once-popular “Case Study Homes” as well as the fusion of art and science at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

The award-winning, locally-produced environmental series EARTH FOCUS received five nominations for its fifth season that presented fresh perspectives on how nature and communities throughout the state of California can thrive together as well as provide long-term ecological solutions in order to protect the natural world. While season six of the locally produced, historical documentary series LOST LA, a co-production with the University of Southern California Libraries, garnered three nominations.

Additional nominations also went to PBS SoCal specials that included the 2024 MEDIA ACCESS AWARDS and the L.A. COUNTY HOLIDAY CELEBRATION (for the live 65th annual concert in December of 2024) as well as documentaries that included WOMEN OF FIRE, POSSIBLE SELVES, SNAPSHOTS OF CONFINEMENT and BIRTH OF THE ENDLESS SUMMER.
