Play the L.A. River is a come-one-come-all project by the arts collective Project 51 -- a collective of L.A. River-loving artists, designers, planners, writers, educators -- that invites Angelenos to explore, enjoy, reclaim, and reimagine the mighty L.A. River as a grand civic space that can green and connect our communities.

SITE: 1739 Albion Street, Los Angeles 90031

'Til 2011: a dairy warehouse. By 2016: a big fab park that connects a riverside park to the river and provides much-needed park space for Lincoln Heights.

With millions in funds already set aside for this extension of Downey Recreation Center, the former Albion Dairy plant will soon become a 6.3-acre park that will be directly adjacent to the east band of the L.A. River. It will improve stormwater quality underground while providing the community with much needed green spaces and recreation areas above, with a new multipurpose athletic field, walking and bike paths, and a host of other recreational features. Perhaps there will be a milk shake or ice ream stand to honor the long-time occupants of the space...
