Chaplain Barry Black

Barry Black is the first African American and the first Seventh-day Adventist to hold the position of senate Chaplain. The tradition of keeping a chaplain has been challenged by advocates of a strict separation between church and state, but the Supreme Court has upheld it, as long as the chaplains remain nonsectarian and nonpartisan. Black brings a unique approach and outlook to the position.
