Unemployment Aid Out of Reach for Many Californians | Feb. 22

On the Feb. 22 episode of SoCal Update, some say the state’s unemployment office is failing Californians. KPCC Reporter David Wagner shares the story of a woman who’s been waiting to receive benefits since March.

For almost a year now, Californians have been losing work because of the pandemic. For help, they’ve turned to the state’s Employment Development Department. But many aid applicants have encountered delayed payments, surprise suspensions and clogged phone lines instead during the past year.
