Where's Huell? From the SoCal's Fanciest Pool to Its Most Whimsical Home
What's a week without the continued adventures of KCET's Golden State-trotting hero, Huell Howser? It's like a summer without sunshine, that's what. Follow along with Huell as he treks all throughout California, from the palatial grounds of a national landmark to kooky corner of one of SoCal's most-visited tourist destinations.
Monday @ 7:30 PM -- "Neptune Pool"
It's quite possibly one of the most beautiful swimming pools in California, and let's be honest: It's a big swimming pool state. But did you know that the Neptune Pool -- as well as all of Hearst Castle -- was designed by a woman? Read the full story in Artbound's write-up on the late, great Julia Morgan.
Tuesday @ 7:30 PM -- "Muscle Beach"
Did you know that the original intent behind this famously rippling spot near the Santa Monica Pier wasn't to support the growth of Schwarzenegger-esque muscles? Originally, it was all about fitness and fun, and Huell's stop checks in on the effort to restore Muscle Beach to an all-encompassing scene once again.
Wednesday @ 7:30 PM -- "Videolog Classics No. 10"
See the clips that made Huell famous! This collection of vintage Huell has segment titles such as "Snow White," "Juice Bar," "Pet Pigs" and "Organ Man."
While this isn't one of the clips in tonight's episode, watch one of the retro segments we host here at KCET.org to get a flavor for Huell's "Videolog Classics" episodes:
Thursday @ 7:30 PM -- "Videolog Classics No. 8"
And another one! Tonight's clips include "Panos Pastry Shop," "Scrabble Lady," "Talking Dog" and "Pig Wall." Watch the first clip right here:
Friday @ 7:30 PM -- "Ablitt House"
With its rigid architecture guidelines and its distinctive, red-tile-roofed "mission" aesthetic, Santa Barbara would be the last place you'd expect to find a house that's so charmingly Dr. Seuss-like. However, it's in the heart of Santa Barbara's tourist sector that you'd find the delightfully odd Ablitt house.
