Best Things to Do in SoCal and LA This Week: April 6-12, 2026
Look beneath the surface
Baert Gallery presents The Space Between Skins, a new exhibition featuring new works by artists Wen Liu and Yesiyu Zhao. The pairing invites viewers to think about what exists in the space between bodies and surfaces to consider what lies beneath and in between. Yesiyu Zhao’s paintings act like a diary, capturing the visible effects of energy in motion. In contrast, Wen Liu’s sculptures of specimens cast in resin preserve a stillness. Together, their work reflects a shared human experience that lingers on the moment just before something old changes into something new.

Lights, Legacy, Action
Join the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television for a special double screening of PBS SoCal Artbound's "L.A. Rebellion: A Cinematic Movement" and TFT MFA thesis "Don’t Be Long, Little Bird." Both directed by alumni, the two films bridge the past and present, redefining the possibilities of American cinema through a lens of cultural resistance and self-representation. The screenings will be followed by a panel discussion with filmmakers Alile Sharon Larkin, Bryant Griffin, and Reem Jubran moderated by TFT Dean Celine Parreñas Shimizu.

Technology surrounds us
Pace Gallery presents Kohei Nawa: Photon Camp, marking the Japanese multidisciplinary artist’s first solo show in Los Angeles. This exhibit brings together 20 new works from two of his iconic sculptural series, PixCell and Prism. Using both traditional and unexpected materials across his paintings, sculptures, and installations, Nawa explores the connections between the physical and digital worlds, the natural and the artificial, and the individual and the collective. Deeply influenced by technologies from different time periods and cultures, he invites viewers to reflect on how technology shapes the way we see and experience the world around us.

After all, nobody knows a museum’s collections better than the staff who conserve, protect, and teach about them.
