This month is brought to you by the letter W for WRITERS CONTEST
By Kristina Alilovic

Do you ever wish you could share the stories from your child’s imagination with the world? PBS SoCal hopes you'll share your little ones’ creativity with us through stories and poems!
Why is creative writing important?
Creative writing and storytelling are excellent tools to strengthen not only the brain, but also one’s imagination. Fiction books are more than just entertainment; they help inspire ingenuity and original ideas!
Story writing can be made easy through these helpful games and activities. Here are a few to get your child started:
- Create a story with your favorite Sesame Street characters through the Storybook Builder game.
- Become a comic book writer with Arthur’s Comic Creator.
- Develop your own newspaper article in the Town Crier with Martha Speaks.
- Start to brainstorm for your own story or poem using our Draw This and Write This activities.
Once your child has ideas for his or her story ready, print out the story book template and get them started on writing and illustrating their amazing story!
PBS SoCal will select three winners from each grade. The winners will receive prizes including an Amazon Fire Tablet, a subscription to MyBookBox, writing journals, books, and a grand price of a $300 college scholarship! The contest ends May 4, 2018 so get your entries in soon!
Children in grades kindergarten to third grade are eligible to apply. You can find more information about the contest, how to apply, and tips on writing a story here!
