Raul Ruiz on the Perils of Being A Chicano Photographer

A photographer and editor of the influential La Raza magazine, Raul Ruiz was often at the frontlines of tense-filled situations, capturing crucial events with a Chicano perspective. This often meant intentionally running toward dangerous spaces rather than away — a strategy made even more dangerous because of the widespread distrust for the Mexican American at the time. Hear Raul Ruiz talk about the experience of covering the East L.A. walkouts and the dangers students and those at the forefront faced at the time.
