California Coastal Trail

Crescent City Harbor Trail

Season 1 Episode 44

According to Sarah Caron of the Crescent City Chamber of Commerce, Del Norte County is home to the cleanest river in the continental U.S., the Smith River, and also has the tallest trees in the world. The Crescent City Coastal Trail comes down through these towering Redwoods as it enters the city, then follows the shoreline for six miles from Crescent City Harbor to Point St. George. Along the way, visitors can see two historic lighthouses, monitor the ocean for marine life and watch fishing boats come into the harbor. Crescent City is also developing a robust Sister City relationship with Rikuzentakata, a fishing town in Japan, which came about after a mysterious boat washed ashore in Crescent City from the 2011 tsunami.
