California Coastal Trail

Restoring Coastal Access at Noyo Headlands Park

Season 1 Episode 40

"Most people who grew up in this town never saw their coastline from end-to-end," says Sheila Semans of Noyo Center. Semans is describing Fort Bragg, CA, where an industrial mill site closed off the coastline for 150 years. After its closure in 2001, the city purchased the land and began to develop the $18 million Noyo Headlands Park, including a coastal trail and an interpretive center with a touch tank aquarium and other attractions. "Everyone is so excited, it's rejuvenated this town," adds Semans of the new park. "The Coastal Trail will become a reality...once we have it, it will change the way people recreate on this coast.
