Urban Habitat: Coyotes and P-22
Often assumed to reside in mountains and state parks, coyotes, mountain lions, and other L.A.-dwelling species have adapted to survive in habitats that may be much closer to us that we think. The coyote has developed the ability to understand traffic lights and knows when to cross streets. The Griffith Park mountain lion, P-22, managed to cross at least two freeways, finds enough prey in an exceptionally small range and steers clear of human contact as much as possible in an urban park surrounded by city streets.
