In George Saunders’ “Lincoln in the Bardo” the ghostly inhabitants of a cemetery don't yet know they're dead. Instead, they're stuck in whatever neurotic condition they were in when they died, narrating the story of Abraham Lincoln's visit to the graveyard to visit his dead son.
