California Coastal Trail
Point Buchon Trail: The Gateway to a Secluded Coastline
Season 1
Episode 25
"Our hikers believe that they've never been introduced to such a magical coastline before," boasts terrestrial biologist Sally Krenn about the Point Buchon Trail. This three-mile long section of the California Coastal Trail in San Luis Obispo County has only been open to the public since 2007. Since then, the pristine coastal area that the trail meanders through, which is owned by the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, receives nearly 20,000 hikers per year. Featuring seasonal wildflowers, coastal caves, and wind-swept bluffs, the Point Buchon Trail is a young public resource offering a grandeur that was rarely seen until only a few years ago.
