From Art to Dust

In the short documentary "Pardon My Dust," designer Peter Han shares the process behind his transitory creations. Han emphasizes the need to focus on the "big picture" as opposed to the small details when creating his elaborate, colorful sketches.

The transition from the traditional sketch pad to the blackboard is not always easy. In fact, it's often very labor intensive, says Han. "Transitioning to the chalkboard is a completely different motion because you are using your whole body. And it really is like a workout. You're going from arm movements, to foot placement, and using your back and chest, and everything, actually. And it's pretty labor intensive a lot of times."

Han also teaches a drawing class called "Dynamic Sketching," which focuses on the interpretation of simple shapes on the blackboard. At the end of the day, even after creating eye-popping designs that fill up the entire blackboard, Han is okay with erasing his designs and "letting go." For Han, the process is often much more challenging and rewarding than the final product.

"No matter how great that piece looks on the chalkboard, eventually no matter what, you got to erase it."
