From the Vault: SCOTUS Strikes Down Defense of Marriage Act
We look back in the Washington Week Vault to the last major decision on the issue by the justices. In the 2013 ruling in United States v. Windsor, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote in the majority opinion that DOMA, signed into law by President Clinton in 1996, was unconstitutional, effectively giving federal legal recognition to same-sex marriages.
