SoCal Connected
Blowing Concerns
Suburban sprawl in SoCal is nothing without manicured lawns and gardens. But in order to maintain them, we depend on gardening equipment like leaf blowers, mowers and hedge trimmers. Unfortunately those tools are often powered by smog-spewing motors that will soon surpass cars as the biggest polluters in California! In a joint reporting project with the investigative journalists at FairWarning, SoCal Connected found little attention is focused on the health risks created by our lush machine-maintained landscapes. And a lot of push back happens when cities actually try regulating their use.
